What Time Do Bars Close in Bangkok? Hours, Zones and How to Plan the Night
Most bars in Bangkok close between 01:00 and 02:00. Venues inside the city's designated entertainment zones, which include parts of Silom and Patpong, RCA and Ratchadaphisek, hold licences that let them trade until 04:00. Sukhumvit sits outside those zones, so Soi 11 usually calls last orders around 02:00.
That gap matters more than it sounds. Plan your evening around a 04:00 finish in an area that shuts at 02:00 and you will spend the back half of the night in a taxi, looking for somewhere still pouring.
Here is how the hours actually work in 2026, and how to build a night that peaks before the lights come on.
Closing times in Bangkok, by venue type

Ordinary bars and restaurants that serve alcohol generally stop around midnight to 01:00, in line with national sale hours.
Licensed entertainment venues, meaning clubs and late bars holding the right permit, run to 02:00. This covers most of what people mean when they say clubbing in Bangkok.
Venues inside a designated entertainment zone can trade until 04:00. Bangkok has only a handful of these areas, concentrated around Silom and Patpong, RCA on New Phetchaburi, and Ratchadaphisek.
Rooftop bars tend to finish earlier than all of the above. Many stop serving between midnight and 01:00, because they trade on the view rather than the dance floor.
Enforcement varies by venue and by night. Treat these as the shape of the evening rather than a guarantee, and ask the staff when you arrive if the timing matters to your plan.
Why Sukhumvit shuts before Silom

Sukhumvit is not a designated entertainment zone, so venues along it work to the standard 02:00 licence. That sounds like a drawback until you look at what sits inside those hours.
Soi 11 packs a rooftop, a speakeasy, a yadong bar and a sky club into a few hundred metres. You are not crossing the city between rounds, which is what actually kills a night out. Our guide to the bars on Sukhumvit Soi 11 breaks down what each one is for.

What the alcohol rules say in 2026

Since late May 2026, licensed retailers and venues in Thailand may sell alcohol from 11:00 to midnight. The old afternoon gap between 14:00 and 17:00 has gone, which is worth knowing if you are planning a late lunch before the night starts.
Shop hours and venue hours are two different things. A convenience store stops selling at midnight, while a club holding an entertainment licence keeps serving well past it. If you want a drink at 01:00, you need a venue rather than a shop.
Sales are also restricted on certain Buddhist holidays and on election days, when bars across the country close or go dry for the day. Those dates move each year, so check before you book flights around a specific night.
How to build a night that runs to closing

The mistake most visitors make is starting at 22:00. By the time the first round lands, the rooftops are winding down and you have skipped the part of the evening that sets the tone.
Start at 20:00 or 20:30 with somewhere social and low pressure. Take the rooftop before 23:00, while the skyline still reads. Move to a bar or a speakeasy around midnight, when the crowd has loosened up. Be inside the club by 00:30 so you are not queueing at the point the night should be peaking.
Done in that order, a 02:00 close feels generous rather than early. Done backwards, it feels like the city shut on you.
